Mind & Body Connection

How important is the Mind & Body Connection? Can you work on just one without the other?

It was great to hear from so many people last week who resonated with the Action versus Procrastination Blog Post.

I had a number of messages telling me what people were going to do that week and stop procrastinating over.   If you’ve missed that one, do go back and have a read.  Is there something you have been procrastinating over.

After reading this post, you might think of something!

I shared in Action versus Procrastination a little about my decision to start the couch to 5k last week.  Interestingly I’ve noticed that it is also National Walking Month this May.  Last weekend my husband and I celebrated our 10th wedding anniversary by climbing a “mountain” (maybe it was a hill but I will call it a mountain) in the Peak District.   It was a 4 hour “walk” with a fairly long steep rock climb.

It’s something my husband loves doing and this new year I agreed to try it.  I’ve never walked for that long or done so much climbing before.   I’d always told myself that I wasn’t very fit, I didn’t “like” climbing and I wouldn’t be able to do it.

It turns out I could do it and actually really quite enjoyed it – apart from the last half an hour when my knees really started to ache!

As you know if you read my blogs or listen to my trainings, I’m a huge personal development fan having “found” it myself in 2015 and making huge changes to my life, business and happiness as a result.  I’ve spent thousands of pounds and hundreds of hours on books, courses, retreats, masterminds etc..  I’ve loved the changes I’ve been able to make as a result.

But, towards the end of last year and the start of 2019, I started to think something was missing.   I was working hard on my “mind” but I wasn’t doing anything about my “body”.  I didn’t like “exercise”.  I wasn’t “good” at exercise.

I’ve decided that to keep growing I need to look after not only my mind, but the body too.   The same would apply to someone who is very “healthy” in terms of diet and exercise but perhaps doesn’t do anything to improve their mind.  Ideally, we want to be working on both – the mind and the body.  To be the very best version of ourselves.

So, I will keep trying to reframe my old belief that I don’t like exercise and that I’m not good at it.  And I will keep pushing myself to try new things and get fitter and healthier. Of course exercise releases endorphins the feel good hormones so it isn’t bad for your mental health either.

How about you?

Do you actively take care of what you eat and how you look after your body?  Do you look after your mind as well?

Or, are you like I have been until now and focus on improving your mental wellbeing and happiness, without perhaps thinking about your physical health?

Maybe you already do both?  If so, keep it up!  And feel free to share any tips with us.

Are you working on one without the other? What might happen if you tried both?

If there is something you want to take up, try or do more of, do you need to stop procrastinating and take action?  Remember to check out Action verses Procrastination if you haven’t already.
